Vlasotince: A New Look for the “Desanka Maksimović” Public Library.
The renovation project of the “Desanka Maksimović” Public Library in Vlasotince is nearing completion. The works are financed by the Ministry of Culture with a sum of 5,973,080 dinars.
„The work is being carried out under the supervision of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments and was necessary for the upkeep of a building that has stood for 180 years. It is a part of our cultural heritage that we must preserve and maintain,“ said Srba Takić, director of the “Desanka Maksimović” Public Library.
The library, known locally as „Giga’s House,“ houses the local history department, an art gallery, and the administration offices – while the second part is located in the Valčić Palace. Before this maintenance project, Giga’s House underwent a complete renovation in 2013, following a fire that occurred in the spring of 2008.
Vlasotince is considered one of the most beautiful towns in southern Serbia.
